本片是“座頭市”系列第九集，由曾執導過第五集《喧譁旅》的安田公義再度執導。這一集的文戲可謂味同嚼蠟，配樂，攝影以及表演皆中規中矩，連一貫插科打諢的喜劇氛圍都十分無趣，全靠勝新太郎獨力支撐。但對殺陣的處理配合燈光效果，竟然有異常精彩的視覺奇觀，同一年以五社英雄的《三匹之侍》成名的平干二郎在此片擔任與座頭市同場較量的高手，與第一集《座頭市物語》的天知茂，皆是惺惺相惜的對手，奈何最後一場雪中決鬥的設計，又是萬年不變的反手刀，實在有些新意欠奉。
对手戏这次不错，剧情重点是姐弟寻找父亲，阿市照例当起了工具人。
有那么一瞬间，我真把你当成了自己的老爹，又怎么下得去刀啊。
一个二十年前让人失望的老爹，二十年后同样让人失望。高田美和为什么演了个新角色。。这操作跟肖央在唐探里面演了两个角色不一样嘛。。不过细想想也正常，当年的演员也不多，配角们也都是在系列里面可能演很多角色。只不过她这两次都是演的比较重要的配角，所以太明显了。
